In his 2012 scherzo, Absolute Jest, John Adams muses on phrases from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the Grosse Fuge, and the Hammerklavier Sonata. Adams conducts the Juilliard Orchestra in this performance, featuring the Dolphins string quartet, creating a monumental soundscape in six movements.
